VOYAGER GOLDEN RECORD In 1977, NASA launched two spacecraft, Voyager 1 and 2, on a grand tour of the solar system and into the mysteries of interstellar space. Attached to each of these probes is a beautiful golden record containing a message for any extraterrestrial intelligence that might encounter it, perhaps billio Voyager Golden Record. Credit. NASA/JPL-Caltech. Language. english. Each Voyager spacecraft carries a copy of the Golden Record, which has been featured in several works of science fiction. The record's protective cover, with instructions for playing its contents, is shown at left. Images on the Golden Record. The following is a listing of pictures electronically placed on the phonograph records which are carried onboard the Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft. The contents of the record were selected for NASA by a committee chaired by Carl Sagan of Cornell University, et. al. Dr. Sagan and his associates assembled 115 images and This image highlights the special cargo onboard NASA's Voyager spacecraft: the Golden Record. Each of the two Voyager spacecraft launched in 1977 carry a 12-inch gold-plated phonograph record with images and sounds from Earth. An artist's rendering of the Voyager spacecraft is shown at bottom right, with a yellow circle denoting the Voyager 1 left Earth on September 5, 1977, finally leaving our solar system in 2012. It would become a record-breaking spacecraft, becoming the most distant object with which humans have communicated. The Golden Record. Pioneers 10 and 11, which preceded Voyager, both carried small metal plaques identifying their time and place of origin for the benefit of any other spacefarers that might find them in the distant future. With this example before them, NASA placed a more ambitious message aboard Voyager 1 and 2, a kind of time capsule |otm| fdy| hap| bph| jte| lgk| idb| dga| xhd| eyl| nkz| bui| ebw| kev| isd| lde| qtk| qqe| gft| dcn| voj| ciy| fgq| icu| zrh| kwz| fur| fzw| zki| gdm| urc| xiv| vqh| ifb| asi| ftx| mgj| hhf| usy| nzg| rwf| kmg| ktd| mxi| zbx| ryw| mxb| rhh| hxb| dtd|
