So far in my Japanese class, we've learned 3 ways to say "want something". ～てほしい refers to what you want others to do. ～たい refers to what you want to do. ～がほしい refers to things that you or possibly someone else wants. However, if you are talking about someone else's wants, its normally followed が has emphasizing effect, but can easily be strange if you mention to things you can't control / ask to do something. には has almost same effect of に.
